Mid-Hudson News: Hall defends Castle Point VA funding
July 30, 2010
WASHINGTON – Funding for renovations for a facility at the Castle Point VA Hospital near Beacon is safe. An amendment to a Veterans Affairs appropriations bill would have removed that. But, Congressman John Hall, in whose district Castle Point lies and who is chairman of a House veterans’ subcommittee, justified the funding on the House floor on Wednesday.
“One project that would be affected by this cutback would be the Urgent Care Center at Castle Point, NY, a VA hospital that was build in 1926. It’s the oldest VA hospital in the country and has never undergone a major renovation,” he told fellow House members. “The project would increase capacity at Castle Point and make the facility more accommodating for female veterans, who are increasingly a large part of our force.”
The amendment to remove the funding was defeated after Hall’s remarks.
