John Hall For Congress

About John

Currently, Congressman John Hall is representing New York’s 19th Congressional District that is located in the beautiful and diverse Hudson Valley. First elected in 2006, John hall won a stunning victory, defeating a six-term incumbent in a race widely noted to be one of the least expected upsets in the country. Since then Hall has gone on to be a leader in Congress across a range of critical issues.

Congressman Hall serves on the House Committee on Veterans Affairs, Transportation and Infrastructure, Subcommittees on Aviation, Water Resources and the Environment, and the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming. These committees have allowed Congressman Hall to focus on fighting for tax relief for middle class families and small businesses, while also being a leader in the fight for a new sustainable energy policy.

One of his most visible roles in Congress has been as Chairman of the Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs, where he has been an ardent advocate for the proper treatment of veterans. As Chairman of the Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee, he has pushed to fully fund veterans’ healthcare and benefits, reduce the backlog of claims, extend the length of time veterans may claim combat-related injuries, and is fighting to preserve the services of veterans at the Montrose and Castle Point facilities.

John Hall was previously elected to one term in the Ulster County Legislature and twice to the Saugerties Board of Education where he served as President. In 1972, he co-founded the popular band Orleans. During his musical career, he released 18 albums and CDs with Orleans and as a solo artist. John has a long history of social and environmental activism, serving on the Board of numerous environmental organizations, co-founding MUSE (Musicians United for Safe Energy) with fellow musicians Jackson Browne, Graham Nash, and Bonnie Raitt, and co-producing the “No Nukes” Concerts in Madison Square Garden in the 1970s.

John Hall, who was born in Baltimore and grew up in Elmira, New York, has lived most of his life in the Hudson Valley. John has one adult daughter and is married to Pamela Bingham Hall, whose father was a West Point graduate and a career Air Force Officer. Pamela, a graduate of Vassar College, is an attorney who has worked for more than a decade in governmental law, including service as General Counsel to the Tennessee State Treasurer, Assistant State Attorney General, and as a Legal Consultant to the University of Tennessee's Institutes for Public Service. They live in the Dutchess County town of Dover Plains.
